TCM Registered Acupuncture in Downtown Toronto

Medical Acupuncture in Downtown Toronto

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners have a unique perspective on health and wellness that can profoundly impact your overall well-being. TCM practitioners utilize a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy along with other therapies. Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment technique used for a wide range of imbalances and dysfunctions of the body. At our downtown Toronto clinics, we offer Acupuncture performed by Registered TCM Practitioners. Our Registered TCM practitioners are trained in TCM healing systems which are very comprehensive and can influence your overall health and wellness. This treatment approach differs from the medical acupuncture treatments performed by our qualified Physiotherapists & Chiropractors which target pain in the musculoskeletal system. We are conveniently located in the heart of downtown Toronto’s financial district and for added convenience we are able to provide direct billing to most extended health insurance policies.

We work as a team to ensure all aspects of your care are addressed. Acupuncture is a safe and effective adjunct to physiotherapy, massage and/or chiropractic treatments. Ask today to see if acupuncture treatment can benefit your health and wellness goals.

What is TCM?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a broad and holistic approach to health and wellness. TCM practitioners use a variety of holistic therapies including acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, gusher, dietary therapy and lifestyle recommendations to support the bodies natural health process. These therapies can help to improve circulation, boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, alleviate pain and promote relaxation. TCM places a strong emphasis on prevention, helping to identify potential health issues before they become serious problems.

TCM practitioners treat a wide range of diseases and conditions, including but not limited to digestive disorders, respiratory illness, cardiovascular diseases, gynaecological disorders, musculoskeletal problems, mental health concerns and skin conditions. Working with a TCM practitioner can help you achieve better health and well-being by providing personalized, holistic care that addresses your individual needs and supports your body’s natural healing processes.

What is Acupuncture?

A fine, sterile, disposable needle is inserted into specific points along a muscle, nerve, tendon and/or fascia to stimulate a physiological response that aids in our bodies’ natural recovery process. The acupuncture needle remains inserted for a duration of time, 10-30 minutes, to create the physiological change in the body. During the session, the needle itself can be stimulated in various ways to enhance the treatment effect.

Insertion of the needles can be used to promote circulation of blood and oxygen, to stimulate the nerves and nervous system, clear energy pathway blockages and is also used to activate an immune response to aid in tissue healing. With almost no significant side-effects, acupuncture has gained significant popularity for the treatment of many health-related issues. This approach is gentle, safe and highly effective.

Two Types of Acupuncture offered at Rebalance

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Registered Acupuncture

  • This approach focusses on the interconnectedness of the body, mind and spirit, and aims to treat the root cause of illness rather than just the symptoms
  • TCM acupuncture helps to restore balance to all the bodies systems and promote optimal health
  • This style of acupuncture has been around for centuries.
  • Our registered TCM acupuncturist will assess your tissue, tongue, pulse and examine movement dysfunction among other assessment techniques.
  • Treatment will include a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, gusha (gentle massage), dietary therapy and lifestyle recommendations
  • TCM acupuncture can treat a wide variety of dysfunctions in all systems of the body including stress, anxiety, fertility, adrenal fatigue, chronic pain, women’s health disorders, weight loss, sleep issues, autoimmune disorders, oncology and musculoskeletal injury or pain to name a few.
  • Treatment provided by a TCM Registered Acupuncturist can be covered by insurance plans under your acupuncture allotment.

Contemporary Medical acupuncture performed by our Allied health Professionals

  • This approach is more contemporary and falls within the Western medicine model.
  • Many of our Physiotherapists & Chiropractors are trained in medical acupuncture and incorporate acupuncture as part of their comprehensive treatment programs.
  • This approach aims to enhance blood flow and provide pain relief to targeted areas.
  • Medical acupuncture can be used to treat many painful musculoskeletal disorders including back pain, neck pain, rotator cuff injuries, golfers elbow, tennis elbow, chronic pain and headaches to name a few.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture treatment causes relatively little to no pain. A sensation of heaviness or dull awareness around the needle site or area being treated can occur. If the needles are being stimulated then you may feel heightened discomfort and awareness but constant communication with your practitioner to ensure comfort throughout treatment will be essential.

What Does the Research Say About Acupuncture?

Research studies indicate that acupuncture is most successful when used in combination with other therapies. Research studies also show that acupuncture needles are effective at releasing trigger points and stimulating neuro-muscular pathways.

This means that acupuncture can increase the activation of targeted muscles and blood flow to the area. Furthermore, research supports that acupuncture can have an immediate influence on pain by causing the release of pain-relieving endorphins.

Is Acupuncture Covered by Insurance Benefit Programs?

Yes, of course. This will depend mostly on your specific extended health benefit plan. We always recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about your plan and understand any restrictions or limitations when it comes to Acupuncture coverage.

Treatment by our TCM Acupuncturist will fall under the Registered acupuncture allotment whereas treatment with your Registered Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Naturopathic Doctor will be billed under the respective services. To make the process simple for you, Rebalance can direct bill on your behalf to a majority of insurance companies.
