More and more physiotherapists in the industry are completing their Gunn IMS certification. The Gunn stands for Dr. Chan Gunn, the visionary anesthesiologist that created Intramuscular Stimulation. It is a systematic model of assessment and treatment of unresolving pain coming from the nervous system. The home of Gunn IMS is Vancouver BC. The University of British Columbia has taken over the education and training of doctors and physiotherapist that treat chronic pain conditions.
This blog is not about the details of this treatment. These details can be found on our Gunn IMS service page
Instead the following are two examples of the amazing results achieved with this treatment. The results are so noteable that you can see them with the untrained eye. I observe results such as these every day; someone who has struggled with pain and visited multiple practitioners with no improvement can get significant results in 3 treatments or less. Take a peek how this treatment that can transform painful postures and movement patterns in just a few weeks.
Model one had a ten-year history of unresolved pain in her lower back, here is a quick snap shot of the results after five treatments.
In the “After” image you can see that her body has a more symmetrical appearance. She is no longer side flexing her spine to the right side, as noted with more equal pelvis and shoulder heights. She looks more relaxed through her shoulders and less slanted. The most notable difference is the disappearance of the right waist crease.
These postural improvements extended into her function. She was able to squat deeper and more symmetrically. She was better able to balance on one leg. She had increased range of motion with spinal movements and was no longer experiencing sensations of sharp shooting pain. From the success of the treatment she was able to return to a worry free active lifestyle.
Model Two had lower back pain and struggled while playing sports. This was evident in his squat form. You can see that before the treatment he would shift his body weight forward and his pelvis would veer to the right. After treatment he is much better aligned, his back muscles are more relaxed, and his torso is more upright. Furthermore, his pain issues resolved and he was able to return to sports.
I continue to be amazed with the incredible outcomes I am seeing with this treatment model.
It should be noted that this treatment is not for everyone, the ideal candidate is someone who has pain that is not resolving in the normal timeline. There are also other important signs that a practitioner needs to find with an assessment to determine if you are a good candidate. For best results with Gunn IMS I recommend a minimum of three treatments in conjunction with education on posture and activity modification. If you or someone you know if struggling with chronic pain, I strongly encourage you or them to give Gunn IMS a try.
