What is Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)?

Trauma Informed Care (TIC) is a treatment approach that takes into consideration the impact of a patient’s previous traumatic life experiences on their current condition and their pain presentation. It considers how prevalent the experience of trauma is in our society and how it impacts our patients, their families, and our community at large.

As we are a Sports Medicine Clinic, we understand that the pain experience is a complex process. The way a person responds to an injury is impacted by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. The level contribution of each of these factors to a person’s injury varies dramatically from patient to patient, and will impact the level of pain someone experiences, and how debilitating an injury will become.

We aim to provide trauma informed care that is centered around your personal goals, in an environment where you can feel safe, empowered to heal, and supported as you progress through your plan of care.

What are the benefits of Trauma- Informed Care (TIC)?

  1. It focuses on YOU – the patient – your personal experiences, and how those impact your specific pain presentation.

  3. It has been shown to result in better health
  4. It acknowledges the impact that trauma has on the individual, their quality of life, and their personal relationships.
  5. Aims to resist re-
