Osteopathic manual therapy (commonly known as Osteopathy) is one of the many services offered at our clinic in downtown Toronto. Osteopathic Practitioners are highly skilled, have a sound knowledge of the body and have years of clinical training and research.
Manual Osteopaths identify and treat anatomical asymmetries that can interfere with the proper function of bodily systems, creating pain or distress. Through a comprehensive assessment, your Rebalance Osteopath will look for the source of dysfunction and use a wide range of hands on approaches to treat you holistically. Osteopathic techniques include hands-on osteoarticular mobilizations, myofascial release, cranial-sacral technique and visceral (organ) manipulation. Manual Osteopaths use an approach that is gentle, comprehensive and highly effective.
Osteopathic treatment is covered by most extended health insurance benefit plans.
At Rebalance Sports Medicine, our Osteopathic Practitioners are extensively trained and have over 1000 hours of clinical practice. Your Rebalance Osteopath will get to know you so they can understand your lifestyle and the influence your pain is having on your quality of life. They will use a hands-on approach that involves a layer-by-layer assessment of the quality, motion and characteristics of the body’s soft and hard tissues. Guided by osteopathic principles and theory, anatomy and physiology, they will aim to get to the root cause of the dysfunction. Our Osteopathic Practitioners are very passionate about wellness and are dedicated to a life-long journey of learning and mastering their practice. The ultimate goal is to be able to make a real difference in the health and vitality of every person treated. Our approach to assessment and treatment is holistic, integrative, and effective.
The symptoms that a patient experiences often arise because of a discord somewhere else in the body. Thus, our Osteopathic Practitioners will search for the cause of the dysfunction and aim to correct it. Sometimes, your Osteopath may be working on body parts far from the site of your symptoms. This allows for the body to naturally self-heal and self-correct as it reverses the underlying drivers of your pain. Patients typically experience improvements in acute pain, chronic pain, inflammation, stiffness, postural imbalances, mobility, healing time, immunity, sleep, anxiety and overall vitality.
Osteopathic treatment is gentle in nature which makes this approach well suited for all ages. Similar to our Physiotherapists and Chiropractors, our Osteopaths can treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal pain conditions. Osteopaths can also address cranial-sacral regions and visceral (organ) connections.
Our Osteopathic Practitioner will work collaboratively with your other health care professionals, including your physiotherapist, chiropractor or your massage therapist to achieve best results.
When you come to Rebalance Sports Medicine for your Osteopathic treatment, you will receive one-on-one individualized care with your Osteopathic Practitioner. Your Osteopathic Practitioner will spend time to get to understand your concern and how it is impacting your life. They will thoroughly assess your body and apply hands-on treatment as indicated. The treatment techniques used by your Rebalance Osteopath will help to clear up restrictions in the body which will improve communication of all the body systems and ultimately resolve your symptoms. Treatment is safe, gentle and often very relaxing.
All three rehabilitative disciplines can be effective in helping to resolve your body aches, pains and injuries. Your physiotherapist, chiropractor and osteopath will all spend time analyzing your movements and utilizing hands-on care to clear restrictions in the body.
Osteopathic philosophy considers the whole body (ligaments, tendons, fascia, muscle, bones, viscera, blood vessels, lymphatics and nerves) and which includes some areas outside of the scope of traditional Physiotherapy or Chiropractic care. Often, we recommend a team approach to your treatment plan to ensure comprehensive and holistic care.
