We offer physiotherapy services geared toward Osteoporosis management at our clinics in downtown Toronto. Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones in the body become more porous and thinner as the specific cells that break down bones out number the cells that help to rebuild bone.

This leads to decreased bone strength and ultimately can increase the risk of bone fracture. Both men and women can be affected by osteoporosis.

There are many different factors that can increase your risk of developing osteoporosis and if treatment interventions target these risk factors then it is possible to modify the disease process. This means that there are measures you can take to help you take control of this condition!

Exercise for Better Bones

Exercise has been proven to be a very effective tool for bone building and this intervention, if done correctly and safely, has the potential to reverse the disease process. We have physiotherapists that are specially trained in osteoporosis management and can develop a safe, personalized exercise program to suit your needs, your current activity level and your risk of fracture.

Our physiotherapists will work with you over a period of time to guide you through a safe and effective exercise program. You will also receive a package of exercises with pictures and detailed instructions so that you can carry out your program independently on a daily basis.

There are many websites about osteoporosis that indicate “weight bearing exercises” and “strength training” are important for your bones. This is true, but it is too general and does not offer you the guidance you need to implement a safe and effective exercise program into your routine. Further, a program that may be helpful for one individual may be unsafe or harmful to another.

At Rebalance Sports Medicine, we take an individualized approach to your condition. Our specially trained physiotherapists will perform a thorough assessment and will set you up with all the tools and knowledge you will require for self-management of this condition.
