Vitamin B12, or cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an essential role in every cell in the body, including red blood cell formation, nerve function, protein and fat metabolism, and DNA production (molecules that carry genetic information).
B12 injections allow for easy absorption, a rapid increase of B12 levels within the bloodstream, and restoration of B12 levels within cells. B12 injections are safe and effective in treating symptoms of B12 deficiency and specific conditions.
At our downtown Toronto clinic, B12 Injections are provided by one of our highly qualified, trained and experienced Naturopathic Doctors. In clinical practice, many cases of vitamin B12 deficiency are overlooked or sometimes even misdiagnosed. Our Naturopathic Doctor will do a thorough intake that covers your concerns in addition to any important health history and a brief physical exam. A complete B12 and nutrient assessment may also be recommended, including laboratory testing.
Furthermore, our Naturopathic Doctors take your recovery seriously and will spend the time assessing your condition to determine if you will be a good candidate for this treatment option. Through their detailed assessment, they will be able to determine the best dosage and frequency for B12 injections to be administered.
In addition, depending on your specific needs, your session can include a combination of B12 Injection and Clinical Nutrition in order to provide you with the best results possible.

If you are a good candidate for B12 injections, your Naturopathic Doctor will let you know. The muscle of the upper arm (or the thigh or glute, alternatively) is injected with ~1mL (less than a full syringe) of B12. Depending on your history and presentation of symptoms, you will require regular B12 injections generally scheduled one to two weeks apart, for a duration of 3 to 12 months. This frequency of treatments can be reduced once symptoms have resolved.
You may require additional sessions if you have a health condition requiring ongoing treatment to correct a B12 deficiency or if you have persistent symptoms. Most people will notice the benefits of B12 injections within three to four sessions (even following the first session).
B12 injections can be mildly painful for some however most patients can tolerate the discomfort well. The most intense pain is during the injection, which only lasts seconds.
The majority of patients will notice a great deal of relief within 15 minutes after the injection. In rare cases, you may feel some soreness for approximately 24 hours after your session and you may have an inflammatory reaction which can include redness and local tissue swelling.
Unfortunately, no. At Rebalance, the cost of your visit will compose of your Naturopathic appointment and the cost of the vitamin B12 injection. The Naturopathic Doctor visit cost is covered by most extended health benefits plans and if your plan allows we can also direct bill on your behalf.
