The Iliotibial Band (IT Band) is a strong, thick band of fibrous tissue that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the outside edge of the shin bone just below the knee joint.
The IT band attaches to the knee and helps stabilize and move the joint. When the IT band isn’t working properly, movement of the knee becomes painful. IT band syndrome is a common injury for runners, cyclists and hikers causing pain mainly on the side of the knee.
This video demonstrates a effective technique to stretch your IT Band. Along with stretching, our physiotherapists, chiropractors and massage therapists all have soft tissue techniques that can loosen your IT Band that can help you become pain-free quicker.
