The squat is a basic, functional movement task that we all perform throughout the day. It is important to train this functional movement to ensure that we are performing this movement pattern in the most optimal way possible to prevent injury and to help facilitate good muscle strength, core stability and control.
Unfortunately, due to our sedentary lifestyles and long hours of sitting many of us do not perform the squat task adequately. Use the tips provided in the video to improve your squat form.
Be sure that you feel the squat in your buttock muscles and core as many people over compensate with other muscle groups instead.
Once you have achieved perfect form, you may challenge this exercise further by adding weights or by going into a deeper squat.
This exercise is great for everybody, however it is particularly important for individuals that participate in activities that rely on the lower body such as golf, volleyball, running, tennis, squash, badminton, basketball and the like.
Never perform this exercise if you are feeling pain, pinching or discomfort anywhere in your body.
We always recommend talking to a qualified health professional such a Physiotherapist to ensure this exercise is right for your body. To book an appointment with one of our expert Physiotherapists in downtown Toronto, give us a call.
